Canadian Election party leaders debate 7th October 2019

As a result of the CBC discussions about this debate and their continuous nauseous talks about winners or loosers I felt obliged to communicate this to them:

Leaders’ “Debate” Debacle.

You have been asking viewers what they thought of the event on Monday 7th October 2019 and after watching you devote soo much time to trying to make it much more than it was I decided to give you my thoughts.

The Format was designed to be a failure; after all, do you know any politician or religious guider who can be really succinct? You invited confrontation but did not give enough time for it to develop from either protagonist so why bother? You also had a leader of a party with no elected members in the last parliament and very little chance of even obtaining party status this time around.

I would classify this as a discussion of the climate as it was introduced into every topic and the real problem of pollution was hardly mentioned.  The largest carbon-sequestering agents are either very sick in the case of the oceans, or diminished by massive cutting or burning of forests.   Yet the bigger threat to mankind – and all other species – is the rollout of the 5G networks the damage from which will make environmental problems immaterial and will perhaps give the earth a chance to recover from the most invasive species it has ever known. Not even mentioned either through ignorance or fear of the communication corporations and their monies.

It was also painfully obvious that not one of those so-called leaders was even aware that the trillion-plus national debt was caused by failing to use the bank of Canada to finance our needs.  In 1974 when the Bank of Canada was turned into an inflation watchdog instead of a source of finance our national debt – owed to ourselves by the way – was a mere $22 billion, and today it is very nearly $1.3 trillion owed to international banks and investors.  There was not a leader on the stage who even considered that, in their efforts to explain how they would pay for anything, they would restart the use for which the Bank of Canada was created. When you consider what we created, built and paid for with the Bank of Canada then today’s problems are very small potatoes.   Today’s money-raising is through increased taxes or cuts…very innovative.

In your follow up programming you have asked some people, many pundits etc., to explain who was the winner and if they had changed their minds about which leader they would vote for thereby taking us further away from the concept of democracy.   The purpose of an election may I remind you, as you seem to have forgotten, is to elect a representative to our parliament, not to elect a dictator. How many times did you ask people which leader they would vote for when that name is not even on the ballot in 337 ridings? What are you promoting here?  Clearly you are in favour of the waring party system which has got us into this mess and gives us one dictatorship after another instead of the democracy so often falsely claimed to exist in this country.

As for the winners – there were none, yet the losers were very definitely the people of Canada who were promised a momentous event and got a dud squib.

Unasked question

Last Wednesday, 2nd October 2019, I attended an all-candidates town hall meeting at Stelly’s School in my riding of Saanich and the Gulf Islands.

I wanted to ask a very particular question about the rolling out of the 5G networks here in Canada with the apparent full approval of Health Canada and all of our so-called representatives in the last parliament in spite of serious questions being asked by scientists.

It seemed a very logical question in light of the massive publicizing of “climate change”, but to my dismay, this was not a meeting at which my question could be asked as it appeared that the questions had been already presented by the pupils of the school.   Good questions too, one or two even had the possibility of humour in the answers but that possibility was largely ignored.

What is referred to as climate change is, I believe partially due to the earth having tilted slightly on its axis, caused maybe by massive earthquakes, underground explosions by nuclear powers (read the USA in particular), and whatever else.  This tilting is evidenced by the fact that the magnetic north of the earth has moved, if that is the right word, and now all old compasses are slightly off when compared to paper maps. Perhaps with Google Earth, GPS etc., paper maps will soon become just like the Dodo bird but until that happens – beware.  There is indeed a clear case for climate change but the reasons presented are perhaps more hysterical and political than real.  The change occurs at the local level, not to planetary one.

In my view, the problem, beside the tilting of the planet, is one of pollution.

Water:           Our already sick seas have been turned into a monstrous plastic garbage heap with the resultant damage to fish, birds, plankton and corral. Without those living things to feed it the sea has warmed and is now a very sick patient. The same applies to our rivers, lakes and aquifers which have been made toxic by cheap corporate dumping.   Read “Sea Sick” by Alanna Mitchell or the example of the Mount Polley Mine tailings pond dam collapsed causing massive damage to Hazeltine Creek and the toxification of the once pristine Quesnel Lake in BC.

Land:             Giant holes have been dug way down into the earth all across the globe and the earth removed has been washed with toxic chemicals and the toxic wash then dumped into manmade lakes only to have them poison the nearby waters when man-made earth dams break.

Air:                 Once there were blue skies with various shades of cloud, white fluffy things or dark storm things and various shades between.  Now there are long strings or plumes of greyish white that are deliberately sprayed into the blue skies. How many times have I been told they are contrails from passing jetliners? Can’t even begin to count. I have seen contrails and they disappear almost as fast as they appear.   That to which I am referring though do not disappear; instead, they grow in size, feather-like spikes come off them and it seems clear that something is dropping from them to the ground. Various claims have been made that they are sprayed from aeroplanes to reduce the heat of the sun and its effect upon the earth. Good lord, how gullible do we have to be to swallow that?  The problem with carbon dioxide is manmade as we continually destroy the earth’s ability to get rid of excess CO2.  The sea and the trees are the lungs of the earth and they need CO2 to grow, or stay healthy – non-acidic and cool in the case of the oceans.  Regretfully we are following the footsteps of previous civilizations such as the Sumerian or Mayan and destroying what is necessary to feed and house a constantly increasing population. There should have been a better way and maybe the next generation will figure it out if we leave them anything with which to work

Back to my question for the candidates which I never got to ask:

“Soo much talk about climate change, and no talk of the 5G networks which, thanks to Health Canada  (a totally compromised organization), are coming very soon to all Canada’s neighbourhoods which will make climate change immaterial as we will not be around to see it.  Do you support this 5G network?”

It would have been interesting to know which, if any of the candidates, were even aware of 5G as none of them mentioned it even obliquely.

If we allow 5G networks to go ahead and put receiver-transmitters on ever second telephone pole so that cars, phones, smart meters, toasters, TVs and washing machines etc., can not only talk to each other but report back to corporate and  government data banks; then the resulting damage to the electrical makeup of man, combined with the death of all bird, insect and other wildlife necessary for the promotion of growth of our foods, will inadvertently make climate change reversible as the most damaging invasive species know to earth will become extinct as well as all the other species we have destroyed.  The earth will recover when we have gone! We cannot eat money or plastic and we cannot drink oil!

The Silent Spring by Rachel Carson was in response to very harmful pesticides, and 5G is much, much worse.  Without insects and birds, how will we get our plants – especially food plants – to pollinate and grow to feed us?

Perhaps it would be best for the planet if indeed the human species died out, but I have children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren who I hope will step up and solve the giant mess my generation and those immediately before and after have produced.

Meanwhile, I can become an increasingly grumpy old man I suppose.

Silly Season 2019

What a crazy world we now inhabit, but for how long.

Summer gets hotter, winds get stronger, water falls, pulses, gushes and destroys, and fires rage and burn homes but not trees.  We are being given a message and the leaders are ignoring it.   The children and young adults are not and we still do nothing. The constant need for power combined with political and corporate greed control us and will until its too late as long as we continue to buy useless “stuff” pushed on us by non-stop advertising. Do you really need a 50 cycle washing machine? A cell phone which is going to make you sick and maybe even give you cancer? A car which thinks for you and is controlled by your cell phone? A veggie or vegan burger called plant-based or beyond meat? A drug which has side effects worse than the supposed condition and can include death?  On the other hand, you do need to know which communication companies are in a rush to alter your electrical makeup with 5G, but will you pay attention to the side effects which you cannot avoid whether you have a cell phone or not?

Here in Canada, we are into an election cycle or totally stupid season.  Promises are made that have no real chance of success and costings are well hidden making them more attractive simply to get your gullible votes.

Take taxes for instance:  Promises are made that the very wealthy will be taxed more which is overdue and fair, but only if overseas dummy corporation tax havens are outlawed. I have, and even promoted, the concept that all businesses operating in Canada must use a Canadian incorporated and based bank and pay taxes on any profits prior to any money being sent overseas.   Of course, if investments must be made overseas, and why not, then there must be employees operating that business not simply a dummy account somewhere numbered or not.   Then there are so-called tax credits. What a joke that is.   Tax credits are listed under the section which includes personal allowances etc. and are discounted down to 17%.    That is, of course, a sleight of hand by anyone’s measure and if one doesn’t have an income sufficient to have that credit take effect then of what use is the credit anyway, discounted or not?

Taxes, of course, are a huge part of the economy of any country, especially here in Canada, and are used to pay for services which we have been promised.  Naturally, we do not have enough income from taxes to pay for everything so costs are passed off to the provincial and municipal governments, which have even more financial responsibilities.   Classic “pass the buck” down the line instead of up the line.

Another factor to take into consideration here in Canada is the interest on the national debt which must be paid out of taxes and is, in fact, the largest single yearly cost to our federal government.

How many of our current crop of deceitful political parties even understand the economic reasons for using the Bank of Canada instead of international banks and investors?  The answer is all the small parties except the Libertarians, and yes that includes the Communists, Rhinoceros and the Marxist Leninists, which makes them more Canadian people-orientated that the big 4 (5 if you include the Bloq).  Of course, the big 4(5) are corporately funded and lobbied to the extent that their hands are tied, or so they claim.    However, since income to the federal government is so important, they conveniently forget that the Bank of Canada, designed and created to fulfil Canada’s financial needs, charges a minimum interest to cover their operating costs and any money left over is returned to the Minister of Finance to help with government expenses.  You would think that it is a no brainer and indeed it is.  Excuses given by Ministers is that the Basil 1,11 and 111 agreements do not allow us to do this.  But those Basil agreements are between privately owned central banks, to which our publicly-owned bank should not have been signed on without a referendum or plebiscite from the people of Canada.  Did we agree? Were we even asked?  The answers to those questions are no we were not.   It wasn’t even a government agreement.  So why is our publicly-owned bank or government bound by it?

The inhabitants of this land for thousands of years are treated like vermin by the descendants of immigrants in much the same way those early immigrants treated them.  Maybe there is some movement to treat them as humans but it is very slow, grudging and inefficient.  Plots of land to which they have been herded give them little or no access to hunting, clean water or even air.  Mines, drilling and other extraction on their unceded lands are carried out with the full permission of governments which do not have the right to allow it, and most often there is no benefit to the rightful owners of that land, and I do not mean the crown.   Actually, our aboriginal people think of it as land that was given to them by their creator to look after, and we are stopping them for doing so.

Which political  parties today are talking about the Mount Polley damn disaster, or the unholy mess in northern Alberta where Bitumen is being mined, or the erection of Cite C damn in Northern BC, not to mention the Unis’tot’en peoples’ burial grounds and trapping lines being assaulted for corporate profit for which they have been offered no share, and to which they do not agree?  One major party has absolutely no interest in anything to do with First Nation, Inuit or Metis rights and another promises top priority and neither they or the third party have any intention of crossing their extraction buddies and their offshoot corporations.

Where exactly do personal attacks tell the people of Canada anything except that it is OK to be prejudiced against an opponent because that opponent stands in the way of their power? Is that what we want our children to be taught?

The fact is that Canada is rife with hatred, prejudice and discrimination of all sorts. Is this being addressed even obliquely?  Hardly.  In fact, it is being promoted by some parties, the members of which seem to have forgotten that their ancestors, or even immediate parents were/are immigrants seeking a better life here in Canada.  I know that is why I came here, to raise a family of Canadians in a beautiful, welcoming country full of possibilities for those who are willing to work for it.   Boy, am I disillusioned now!

The young people today are interested in having futures for themselves and their children on this planet now being destroyed at a greater rate for a few dollars and are any of the parties really listening to them? or are they making empty promises they have no intention of keeping simply to get their votes?  

Once upon a time Canada meant something in the world, now we are just a pawn to corporate power game. We do not lead by example any more. We do not do something because it is right to do it, but simply do what we are told.  Our sovereignty like our diplomatic value are both at zero, because of political allegiances owed to states such as Israel or The US with their totally terroristic approach to the world.

But:

This time we just might have enough disillusioned people here in Canada to have a widely differing set of politicians and parties in our House of Commons, and a  minority government to be supported on good legislation for the people, and bad legislation either amended or thrown out, again for the benefit of the people of Canada rather than corporations whose bottom line and CEO bonuses far exceed the benefits to humanity.

It’s up to us, so let’s get out and vote for the real candidates who will represent you to Ottawa not Ottawa to you, who will swear an oath of allegiance to the people of Canada, not a foreign Queen…. And that excludes Liberal, Conservative and NDP….maybe even the Greens…if only they could adopt the Bank of Canada instead of international banks and investors and become real Canada supporters…Ah well.

We live in a world of internet information false or not; cell phone computers rule our lives and control our thoughts and actions and we allow consumer products designed to spy on us and to shorten our lives (smart meters, 5G networks etc.,) to change our electrical bodies and weaken our ability to think for ourselves, even to communicate with our fellow humans, and this is progress?

Rock on Greta Thunberg, Autumn Peltier, Malala Yousafzai and all you young people, take control please because you are showing more sense and courage than all our politicians combined.

 

A stark contrast in styles

I never cease to be amazed at the perfidy of our elected so-called representatives.

I am not going to go into the present controversy concerning Jody Wilson-Raybould, nor am I laying blame as I really do not know what happened.  A reporter for one of our wonderful newspapers quoting unknown sources claimed wrongdoing by the PM, PMO, PRO or others concerning the SC Lavalin case and this has been accepted as gospel by the opposition.

My problem here is the absolute hypocrisy concerning committees.

Does anyone remember how Brad Butt (CPC) lied not once but twice on the same day during the debate on the UNFAIR ELECTIONS ACT? (Hansard: 6th Feb 2014 at 1620, and again at 1720)

He would have got away with it because his word was taken as true by unsuspecting MPs, but I suspect that Elections Canada called on him to explain why he had not reported this to them and he had to make a very insincere apology to the House –(Hansard 1140 29th Feb 2014)   This resulted naturally in a call on the Speaker of the House (Sheer) to make a ruling as to whether Butt should be obliged to appear before the House Committee on Internal Affairs to explain himself.  To give him credit the Speaker ruled that he should which prompted an opposition motion to that effect which the Government House leader of the time (Van Loan) vigorously rejected and indeed the motion was defeated by a Conservative vote.  What appalled me at the time was that Speaker Sheer was not even in the chair to hear the result of the vote but left it one of his minions, and so no committee meeting was called to examine this total breach of House rules, and a Speaker’s ruling was rejected out of hand.

Contrast this to the demand for a committee hearing on the Wilson-Raybould affair, where a committee was called into an emergency meeting over the matter.  The actual performance of the opening meeting was not very conducive to a nonpartisan discussion and indeed was very partisan indeed and many derogatory remarks were made concerning the witnesses called prior to that meeting.  It was clear to me that the list could and would be expanded but, led by that somewhat odious MP Cooper, there were open accusations of a cover-up.

What the outcome will be is anyone’s guess but the contrast in agreeing to a committee meeting right away and completely denying the same on a Speaker’s ruling is very stark. I give the government kudos for calling the meeting and I trust that something will come of it, but at least they responded.

It is also worth noting what the Speaker had to say prior to Oral Questions on 7th February this year:

While I not a fan of the current “sunny ways” – as I sit watching snow fall yet again in the Banana belt of southern Vancouver Island – I cringe at the thought of a cowardly ex-Speaker leading this incredible country called Canada into hateful, two-faced Conservative ways again.

 

Clearly what we need is many small party or independent MPs who will swear allegiance to the people of Canada rather than the Crown, and who will hold any minority government to account, and not be accountable to corporate pressures.

 

I can dream, can’t I?

Ottawa, Ontario – February 3, 2019

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the Interim President of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó. The two leaders discussed the importance of the international community sending a clear message regarding the illegitimacy of the Maduro regime and the need to respect the Venezuelan Constitution. Both underscored the importance that free and fair Presidential elections be held.

The Prime Minister commended Juan Guaidó for his courage and leadership in helping to return democracy to Venezuela and offered Canada’s continued support.  The Prime Minister noted that the Lima Group meeting in Ottawa tomorrow will consider how the international community can further support the people of Venezuela, including through immediate humanitarian assistance.

Canada Pledges $53M in Humanitarian Aid for Venezuela

 

 

I could fully understand this behaviour from Donald Trump who probably wants to build a Trump Tower or Golf Course there and to whom the relevance of truth or consequences has no meaning, but to come from Canada?  

Where is the mandate from the people of Canada for this serial interference in defiance of the UN declaration?  Do we not matter when we are supposed to pay for this instead of real-time problems here at home?  

 Rule of law only applies when it is convenient maybe?

Of course how silly of me….it’s simply an extension of the Bev Oda / Stephen Harper bribery in South America on behalf of Canadian Mining Corporations.   See the “Ugly Canadian” by Yves Engler for full details on that corruption and how much it cost us. Remember that “Surprise” cartoon of Harper removing a Trudeau mask to reveal himself? 

$53 million would supply a lot of mobile homes to Cat Lake or any other reservation with housing mould problems.   It would create jobs for Canadian manufacturers – if there are any still in Canada, I think one somewhere in Ontario may still be building I am not sure or maybe Ford has closed them down by now.  But safe warm houses for our original people is not a priority whereas the future gross profit, at local inhabitants’ loss of rights and homes even their lives, for some Canadian mining corporations is.  

Sounds about right for a crown/corporation owned and run colony.

So what do we do about it?

Our taxes pay for those who make these very poor judgements so maybe we should refuse to pay for MPs who put corporate greed and profit over Canadian wellbeing – and I mean ALL Canadians which includes the First Nations, Inuit and Metis.   Tax time is coming so claim your refunds but if you owe do not submit one penny (?) extra until you get an accounting in writing from your MP as to why he/she should be paid by you and not the crown to whom they swore allegiance.

I hear you say that they will come after you for sure and yes they will, but if 20 million of us do it that would be a rather daunting task and would certainly make a strong point. After all, they like to get paid just as do you even if their $167,000 per year plus expenses (for a backbencher) is three or four times what you make.

When the election is finally called this fall, remember to vote for someone new with small party or independent status and get rid of these crown/corporation owned puppets.  Maybe even run yourself and help bring some semblance of reality to Canada.

Canada is back ?????

Unist’ot’en, Cat Lake and Venezuela

I am very upset and frustrated at the actions taken by the RCMP on behalf of a corporation which has not and obviously does not feel the need to get agreement from all levels of aboriginal leadership before it destroys the livelihood and, eventually I am sure, the homes of those Canadians – the people of Unist’ot’en. What is happening in northern BC is indeed an insult to not only the people who live there, but also to all Canadians.

Even Lord Dufferin stated back in the 1800s that there was “an initial error” in the way BC dealt with the “Indian title” issue. In the talk he went on and said that in Canada, “Before we touch a single acre, we make a treaty with the chief representing the bands we are dealing with, and having agreed up and paid the stipulated price….we enter into possession, but not until then do we consider that we are entitled to deal with a single acre”.

We do understand that in swearing allegiance to the Crown (sic. corporate power and profit) and not to the Canadian people you have in fact abandoned all the Canadian people to please that Crown. Now you are going to ask us to vote you back in again so that you can swear allegiance to a foreign entity again and ignore us until 2023. No wonder you didn’t want anything but FPTP voting.

I cannot understand how thick skinned you must be to state over and over again that your priority is to establish a good relationship with our First Nations, Inuit and Metis, and yet here you are using a national rent-a-cop paramilitary force to stop them from accessing their homes and trap lines. At the same time, that force is protecting and even promoting the illegal actions of Coastal GasLink and their contractors. Clearly, you have no shame, no humility, no understanding of anything but bowing down to the corporate profit which guides what you do.

What is truly sickening is that any alternative government will do exactly the same as both those other parties are as controlled by the Crown and corporate wellbeing as are you. Even a minority government will no longer be a viable alternative, as all members will swear allegiance not to the Canadian people who vote for you and pay for you but to the Crown.

How many times do you have to be reminded that each time you refer to Canada as a democracy in our House of Commons you are showing us your ignorance at what a democracy is or should be, and you are at the same time misleading the House which is supposed to be against the House rules. Canada has never been a democracy and never will be under the present governmental stewardship. We have a parliamentary system that is indifferent to the people which is the exact opposite of a democracy.

Combined that with your acceptance of an upstart as the new president of Venezuela you have demonstrated again to the Canadian people that you are out of touch with us, that you are out of touch with what Canada should and could be, or is this what you really meant by: “Canada is back”..

What right, I ask you, do you have to complain about another country’s government and its perceived bad treatment of it’s people when here at home in Canada we have deliberately kept our First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in poverty and squalour on reservations not of their choosing, living without drinkable water and in moldy houses as now is shown to be the case in yet another reservation – Cat Lake. Instead, you self-righteously take your orders from foreigners and their corporations before you deal with the problems we have right here in Canada.

Did you not learn anything by our actions in that disastrous and horrendous war on the people of Libya on behalf of the IMF? American military intervention means bombing what they consider to be an offending country into rubble and oblivion without regard for the civilians killed as happened in Libya. Do you want to take us there again?

All your grand words and talk of perceived atrocities in another country means nothing when you treat our original inhabitants of this fantastic land like vermin, to be pushed aside and extinguished all for the sake of a few worthless pieces of paper.

Yes, I am angry and absolutely disgusted.

I am too old to assist physically but I have and will again donate to and support the Unist’ot’en cause and their right to live unmolested on their un-ceded traditional territories which, up until the European settlers came with gold lust and power in their hearts, have supported their way of life for millennium.

Has there ever been such a misnomer for a governmental body as this one?

 The name suggests that this body has been given the responsibility of looking out for the health of Canadians.   In reality Health Canada is a pawn for whichever corporation donates to them.

 There is only one country in the so called civilized western world that has approved the 5G cell phone network of microwave exposure to their people. Yes that is correct – Canada!

 Why?

 Corporate lobby and donations giving preferential treatment over Canadians’ safety.

Big Pharma are given an open door to sell drugs that are not fully tested on people and natural health food companies are harried, fined and put out of business for selling real food that can, has and will help people to recover their health after being made sick by not only big pharma’s’ drugs looking for a sickness or creating one, but also by GM products and their “roundup” pesticide along with toxic fast food and microwaves attacking our bodies and minds.

 Flu shots are causing damage and even death daily in Canada with Health Canada’s blessing.

Babies are being vaccinated or given shots – which big pharma CEOs will not take themselves -immediately after birth and the results are not even tabulated by HC. Immunization against common diseases like chicken pox, measles, mumps etc., do not give lifelong resistance but have to be repeated almost yearly. When I was a small boy and any neighbouring kid got one of those sicknesses we were sent to play with them, caught the sickness and now I have that lifelong immunity which is still protecting me even in my advanced age. Because my immune system is not threatened every day by such disease I tend not to even get the “pretend” flu when it comes around yearly in whatever form is promoted and probably spread by the Big Pharma companies that year.

                                                                  BUT

 I have no protection against microwaves which batter me every time I leave my home and venture into a world full of cell phones, smart meters, wifi zones on buses, taxis, in schools and shopping malls, even streets such as Goldstream Avenue in Langford BC; I have no immunity against the fallout from the chemtrails and their particles of aluminium and barium etc., which fall to the earth and are ingested by animals raised to feed me; I have no immunity against toxic water caused by the same chem trails and poisoned aquafers: I have no immunity against industrial smog – luckily I live on the Peninsular on South Vancouver Island but I do occasionally go to Vancouver; I have no immunity against the steroids fed to food animals; and I have no immunity against concrete or asphalt parking lots which have replaced trees, natural carbon sinks.

 Perhaps one could say that these are all part of living in an industrialist world, and I have, so far, still got the ability to buy natural products that can hep me. Problem is for how long now? That is up to Health Canada and big pharma.

 Health Canada is an expensive farce in that there is no protection for me – or any Canadian – from these or more toxins thrown our way with their blessing. I wish there was a way to boycott Health Canada but there isn’t so perhaps I should be promoting the idea that we would be better off both financially and in health matters without it.

 Come to think of it isn’t healthcare a provincial concern?

 Meanwhile, Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Brison, how about stopping payments to a body which caters to corporate lobbyists not to Canadians.   You will not hear me complaining.

NAFTA Nonsense

It was with some pleasure that I learned on Friday 31st August Canada had not succumbed to the bombastic, belligerent President of the USA and agreed in haste to the bilateral agreement between Mexico and the US.  IT is not clear to me that a bilateral agreement between the USA and Mexico within the borders of NAFTA is entirely legal, not that that would worry President Trump at all.   The fact that he would play one country against another has a familiar ring of a reality show to it and really has no place in the real world where actual peoples’ lives and wellbeing are the stakes.  Typical of him I think.

 

The complaint is that Canada has not treated the US in a fair way due to softwood lumber and our supply management system.  From my reading and understanding of NAFTA there should be no tariffs between the three countries and of course, we already know that this has been broken not only in the case of the softwood lumber but also in the steel and aluminium trade.  Clearly, this man has no idea what an agreement is and perhaps that is why I hear so often that he has defaulted on more business contracts than he has fulfilled.

 

While the USA complains that our softwood lumber is subsidized by some form of stumpage, let us also remember that the agricultural sector of the USA is heavily subsidized by their Federal government. It seems that there is an equal amount of wrongdoing here and the pot is calling the kettle black.  Concerning the supply management system, this could be amended perhaps provided that the products coming into Canada meet with Health Canada and our agriculture standards.  Health Canada, of course, will bend over backwards to the US on most issues and really needs to grow a backbone and remember that the health of the Canadian people is their priority not the health of American corporations.   For the dairy sector, it still amazes me that we are the only species on earth to drink the milk of another species and expect after it has been treated and reduced in any beneficial way that it is good for us.   Cows eat grass – we do not.  Cows’ milk is basically a bovine growth hormone designed by the creator to make calves grow faster.  Some small wonder then that we have too much obesity in our population.   There are alternatives available such as hemp milk, coconut milk and for a while before it became GMO contaminated soy milk etc., and yet these are largely ignored because the dairy lobby is too powerful and like most corporate ventures is interested in protecting their toxic products and the profits derived from them.  Real milk is, of course, illegal and those who produce it are prosecuted, while those selling pasteurized and then artificially fortified again stuff are protected.   Makes no sense to me.   When I was young we were drinking real milk with cream still within it and my immune system is fine thanks.

 

As for the lumber, we should not be exporting any lumber which is hit by a tariff and indeed here we can and should be exporting to other markets.  We send a vast amount of raw logs overseas when we should be sending finished lumber instead.  A byproduct of this would be the return of sawmills and employment that go with them. If we stopped sending lumber to the states how long would it be before their construction business came to a huge slowdown?  The idea is not to hurt the ordinary American but to send the message that a product is sold at a certain price and if that is not agreed upon then it will not be sold.  The basic rule of commerce – there must be a market and a buyer who is willing to pay the price asked for that product.

 

There were many things built into the original FTA and then accepted into NAFTA that were not good for Canada, and yet Trump in his self-righteousness forgets that we cannot reduce the percentage of any petroleum products we produce and send to the US even if we run short ourselves, nor can we increase the price of electricity across the border without both our PM and the US president agreeing to such a price increase.  This means that BC is exporting hydropower to the seven western states at the same price which was in effect when WAC Bennet was premier of BC prior to the FTA came into being.  Now, who do those two alone benefit? Certainly not Canadians.

Article 605: Other Export Measures

Subject to Annex 605, a Party may adopt or maintain a restriction otherwise justified under Articles XI:2(a) or XX(g), (i) or (j) of the GATT with respect to the export of an energy or basic petrochemical good to the territory of another Party, only if:

 

  1. a) the restriction does not reduce the proportion of the total export shipments of the specific energy or basic petrochemical good made available to that other Party relative to the total supply of that good of the Party maintaining the restriction as compared to the proportion prevailing in the most recent 36month period for which data are available prior to the imposition of the measure, or in such other representative period on which the Parties may agree;

 

The Americans want to do away with the dispute mechanism and so does any Canadian who is tired of paying huge sums of their tax dollars to America corporations which see perceived profits lost because of our environment or health standard laws. This also includes Canadian companies which incorporate in Delaware because it is cheaper and gives them access to the dispute review panel – Lone Pine Power of Calgary is a perfect example of that to the tune of $250 million.  There is never an amount allotted in any budget for these tribunal awards probably because all governments want to hide them.  This government wants to keep on paying them it appears.

 

It has been my contention that ALL corporations with Canadian subsidiaries doing business in Canada, such as Coca-Cola or Pepsi or MacDonald’s, should have accounts in Canadian banks in Canada and pay taxes on their gross income before their profits are sent to the US or the Cayman Islands. Also, Nestles should not be allowed to draw as much water as they can from Hope Lake without charge and bottle it and send it south of the border in plastic bottles for profit.  Arrowhead water for Walmart. How did that come about anyway?  Is it part of NAFTA that we should give away our water for free and have it sold for profit elsewhere?

 

America’s problems do not stem from NAFTA but from their inability to control their corporations allowing them to set up manufacturing in countries where the labour costs are cheap and bringing those cheaper products back to the homeland.  The constant demand for profit for their shareholders and the need to pay obscene bonuses to their CEOs etc. demand that they cheat as much as they can and they do.   That is not a NAFTA problem it is an American corporate greed problem.

 

Now I hear that that man is tweeting again that Canada is an enemy of the US and it would appear that we are a greater threat to the US than Mexico, China, Russia and Korea combined.  If this is the way you treat a friend then I do not want to be a friend to his administration and their twitter diplomacy.  It frankly stinks of the president’s bigotry, racial and religious hatred combined with the love of an apartheid State of Israel and a grandiose assumption that he can do no wrong and everyone else is at fault.   What a way to rule a country.

 

Do we really think that those Americans without a job, without a roof over their heads and no money for food for themselves or their family think he, a fat cat with no shortage of wealth, pomp and grandiosity is serving them well?

 

Bring on the peaceful revolution.

 

Cancel NAFTA too. 

 

Give him his wish and let’s charge what we need for our products.

 

Now I learn that this egotistical, racist, bigot is telling Canadians what is and is not of political importance to us.  Perhaps he should spend more time looking in the mirror instead of pouting at the cameras.  His efforts to create strife amongst his allies could just cause us to tell him where to go unless of course, the apartheid State of Israel tells us not to !!!!!

I came across this quote the other day tattooed upon a young man’s leg at Operation Trackshoes at UVIC, and it struck me as rather pertinent to politics generally and particularly those in the Canadian House of Commons and Senate.

Let’s face it, the constant squabbling, backstabbing and partisan jabs that take place are indeed laughable.   The concept that debate, questions period and most members statements should be taken seriously are indeed laughable.  Debate in the House isn’t debating any more it is reading prepared statements in a restricted time frame and does not represent the opinions, desires or requests of the people of Canada which no longer matter, indeed they have not mattered for aeons.

These petty statements about the previous or current governments, their failings, shortcomings, or absurdity is laughable.  When a member of the previous government complains about something done numerous times by their government now being done against them it is not constructive but laughably petty.   Is this what we pay them for?   When the current government complains that the previous government didn’t do something that is also petty and indeed laughable. Again is that what we pay for and demand?  Do we demand anything from those who we pay so well to represent us?  Is democracy really alive and well in Canada? Again that concept of laughter shows what a mockery the Canadian Parliament has become, and we have lost that ability to laugh long and loud at their pathetic proceedings.  If we can rediscover that ability to laugh at and mock these overpaid caucus puppets just maybe they will feel as stupid as they appear and make some effort to change and actually represent us, but do not hold your breath, laugh instead!.

 

A perfect example of this is the so-called oral questions, or question period, held daily in the House of Commons.  This has become an exercise in open personal slandering under the guise of asking a question and then naturally being given a completely “non-answer” response.  If this sort of behaviour had occurred in the schools I attended as a youth I would have been disciplined immediately.  However, these “children” get away with it every day.  We have been conditioned to accept this as serious not as a joke and so we forget to laugh out loud at this behaviour by these adults.

 

Instead of taking them seriously we must start to laugh at them.   How long will they continue to act this way if they understand they are being treated as jokes?

 

Currently, we have a problem with the President of the USA and we take what he tweets or says seriously. Like any bully or a bad-tempered ignorant man he cannot stand to be laughed at, and yet no one does.  Witness the recent meeting of the G7 prior to which Trump complained that Russia should have been included when he is front and center in creating sanctions against that country and could he really want to face Putin across the table?  I doubt it. Yep, that is truly laughable to think about.  His blustering, lack of courage to say face to face what he thinks, to be stated later in some stupid tweet is indeed the sign of a bully.  Why are we simply not laughing in his face?  What can he do that he is not doing already?  He alone is causing chaos all around the world, not face to face but by caustic tweets and sanctions.  Those are the actions of a real man?  

The way our government reacts is submissive.

NAFTA should be scrapped, we should refuse to export our lumber products there and put tariffs on everything from chewing gum to Boeing aircraft made in the USA.  The way to deal with a bully is not to surrender to his bluffing, but to respond in like manner. Turning the other cheek leads to a second bruised cheek.

 I hear the cry that we cannot survive by doing this and that our economy will collapse.  What nonsense.  Our economy has been recently created to revolve around oil, and now we have put ourselves in a position where we are dependent on the USA buying our oil – especially our bitumen -, refining it and sending it back to us as a finished product at a huge profit to them.  Yes, we have backed ourselves into a hole through FTA and NAFTA but that hole is our own doing as we continue to keep NAFTA on the basis that we need it to survive. 

Really? 

How well did we do prior to FTA?  How well did we do before we gave control of our resources and economy to foreign entities? How well did we do before we succumbed to the siren call of globalization?  How well did we do before we hamstrung our farmers or sold off our shares in CWB, CP or CN or Petro Canada?  We have the ability to trade with the world but we have tied ourselves to the scraps that the USA passes our way. 

That is economically sound?  Laughable indeed!

 We need to be able to laugh at ourselves too and understand that we are soo much more than we currently have become.  I learned early on that if I was not able to laugh at myself and my foibles then I could not expect others to laugh when I made fun of them.

 Laughter is very powerful and as Mark Twain said it conquers all.   We should remember to try it more often, and more importantly, teach our children to laugh too.

 When you stagger out of bed tomorrow look in the mirror and smile, and you will get an instant response from your image and I guarantee it will make you feel better and might even have you laughing out loud with your image if you let it.

 

It is OK to wake up laughing so why not laugh all day long at those who deserve it, including yourself?

Foreign Affairs and a useless Pipeline

To the right honourable Chrystia Freeland,

Minister of Foreign Affairs for Canada.

 A few simple questions for you:

As a result of two people being poisoned (?) in the UK which was promoted, without proof, as being done by the Russians, you expelled some Russians from Canada without any proof that they had any part in this event nor that they had done any harm to Canada.

Where was your mandate for this Minister, or was it simply that your instructions came from Israel, the UK and the USA and fitted with your obvious hatred of Russia?

Should your job not be to create goodwill between Canada and all the other countries of the world Minister, rather than follow the dictates of others?

Concerning NAFTA.   Have you agreed to swap the elimination of Chapter 19 for the elimination of Article 605 of this investment agreement?

As long as they are both in force we are in double jeopardy.

Article 605 clearly states that we cannot ship any Bitumen anywhere in the world except the USA.    They have been given 100% of our production and if we try to ship any anywhere else we will be taken to a tribunal under NAFTA chapter 19 and all of Canada will have to pay for this.

Has the Minister of Finance agreed that he will be able to pay as there is nothing in his budget about it?

Re Kinder Morgan and their pipeline to Burnaby:

We are told many misleading “facts” in the House as in the emergency debate which took place on 16th April.  We were told ad infinitum by two of the five parties in the House that the product of the “oil” sands are what is at stake here, and yet although I wrote to every MP asking for help to determine where these “oil” sands are located as yet I have not had a single reply. The job figures that are floated are almost identical to and as mythical as those promoted by Joe Oliver concerning the Northern Gateway pipeline.

We are also told that there will be two large tugboats travelling with these super bitumen tankers which indicates that even those in favour of the bitumen pipeline acknowledge that there is a risk of damage and spillage.  If that does happen where will this (these) supertanker(s) be towed still spewing dilbit enroute?  Where will these super tugs come from and who will pay for them?   Have you told the endangered pod of the Southern Orcas that they will have to hide from the noise of these three large ships twice a day?  Do you have the approval of the State of Washington concerning the potential damage to their part of the ocean and coast?

To which countries do you intend to send these giant bitumen tankers anyway even if it contravenes Article 605 of NAFTA?

Where is the proof that the Syrian government used gas on civilians even though they were winning that part of the domestic, but foreign instigated and inspired, war and had no need for such use?   Where is the logic from their point of view?  Why did you not wait for the inspection by the UN to take place before you jumped in to condemn Syria?

When are you going to reprimand Israel for their soldiers using playing Palestinian children for target practice?   Perhaps you personally and your government agree that this was alright, but the vast majority of Canadians do not agree with you.

Will you take a year to answer this email as you did my previous request for information about CETA, and the then TPP, concerning some definitions in those investment agreements allowing“enterprises” (corporations)  of a foreign country to have equal rights as “persons” here in Canada?
